Monitoring and Targeting Workshop
Date: to be advised
Location: Hong Kong
Expose hidden, avoidable energy
losses
Monitoring and targeting should be
central
to any effective programme of energy management. Why? Because, if done
properly, it allows you to:
- get
reliable early warnings when energy
is being wasted because of hidden problems;
- instantly
prioritise exceptions
according to their cost;
- get
insights into underlying patterns of
consumption which reveal energy saving opportunities;
- rapidly
verify the effects of
energy-saving measures;
- monitor
the long-term efficacy of
improvement measures; and
- forecast
consumption more precisely for
budgeting purposes.
The trick is to account correctly
for
factors like the weather (or changes in product mix and output, etc)
which
otherwise distort the picture and obscure the symptoms of waste. Most
energy
users struggle with deal with this; in this workshop you will learn
simple but
powerful
strategies for solving these problems, plus practical ideas for
integrating the principles into day-to-day energy management.
This workshop is suitable for those
who
want to implement a new M&T scheme or make an existing one more
effective.
It is intended for facilities managers, plant engineers,
works
managers and engineers and
environmental managers as well as full-time energy managers. Even
consultants
and software suppliers have found it very useful. It is limited to 12
delegates
to ensure an informal and interactive day, with questions and
discussion
encouraged throughout. Examples and exercises are used to illustrate
and
clarify the material.
What you will learn
At the
end of the workshop you should
expect to understand
- How
to account properly for the weather,
production activity levels, and other quantifiable influences;
- The
significance of being able to
calculate what the “correct” consumption was for a
given set of conditions;
- How
to construct an energy performance
indicator which actually means something;
- How
degree-day figures enable you to
track energy used in heating and air conditioning;
- How
to calculate, filter and prioritise
exceptions;
- The
role of cusum analysis in setting
targets and diagnosing past changes in performance;
- The
best ways to handle the necessary
data; and
- Simple
tactics to avoid drowning in data
from automatic systems
.
